The Viewing Barn
"This barn is a small way we hope to give back — by opening our doors, sharing our story, and welcoming you to be part of it."
Welcome to the Viewing Barn!
We’re so excited to open the doors to a
space we’ve created for learning, connection,
and curiosity.
Whether you’re a lifelong local or visiting for the first time,
this is your chance to get a firsthand look at
how our hens live, how they’re cared for, and how the
eggs they lay make their way to your table.
Our farm is home to about 15,000 free-range hens, spread across three barns. Every day, these hardworking ladies lay fresh eggs. We've been raising hens the same way for years — free-range, well-fed, and looked after properly. Our Viewing Barn gives you a closer look at the egg farming process from our barn to your plate.
Inside our Viewing Barn, you’ll get a closer look at:
The story of our family’s six generations farmers on Vancouver Island
A behind-the-scenes look at how eggs are collected, cleaned, and packed
An overview of the egg industry here in British Columbia
A closer look at the care, values, and daily work that go into responsible farming
What You’ll Discover.

Rooted in Generations
of Farming.
The Viewing Barn is the next chapter in a story that began six generations ago, when Henry Simpson first settled on Vancouver Island. Since 1998, our family has called this land in Nanoose Bay home. This project brings together our two lifelong passions, Erin as a schoolteacher, Ross as a farmer and reflects our belief that farming has just as much to teach as it does to grow.
We’re proud to open our farm to the community and continue the work started by the generations before us, while also honoring the traditional lands we live and farm on cared for since time immemorial by Indigenous peoples whose presence and stewardship continue to guide this place.
